San Bernardino Mountains (10)

Cryptoporus volvatus

ねぇパックンチョ見つけた!

corky
 but not a oak gall

Cryptic Globe Fungus

This reminds me of ヒトクチ茸 in Japan

But turnes out that ヒトクチ茸 is Cryptoporus volvatus (the same)

Oops

What I see in San Bernardino Mtn do not open their mouth yet

Known that insect larvae were often found inside, between the pores

Crypt-: hidden, secret
por-: pore, pores
volva-: wrapper, womb(volva)
